What it does

Tesla is building Optimus as a vertically integrated humanoid with a driving-style data flywheel. Its 2025 target of 10,000 units was missed entirely; Musk said in January 2026 that none were doing useful work, and production at Fremont was due to start slowly in summer 2026.
